Welcome to peruvian Amazonia

Casa Purawa is a traditional art school in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.

It is run by Casilda, a renowned artist and medicine woman whose work is deeply rooted in visionary art.

This unique space is both a place of creation and a place where knowledge is passed on.

The school offers practical workshops in which techniques inspired by visionary art, developed by the Peruvian artist Pablo Amaringo, are taught.

Traditional symbols and spiritual practices linked to medicinal plants are at the heart of the works.

Casa Purawa is a place where art meets ancestral wisdom

Created in 2003 on the initiative of Casilda and Agustin, the school originally welcomed young and adult members of the Kokama communities. The idea was to recover the collective memory through pictorial art. Today, they are still free to come and create. Some have gone on to become recognised artists.

‘We trained artists in the Puerto Miguel community. During the first few years, we gave the children the basics, as the first steps in a long apprenticeship.

We use art to awaken their dreams and memories’.
